Wuxi Weather in October

Mild days outdoors

October is Wuxi at its most comfortable, with warm afternoons and cooler evenings. Highs reach 23°C, while rain is lighter than in September. You'll still get some showers, so a wet day can interrupt plans, but there's usually plenty of time for exploring.

The weather suits walks around Turtle Head Isle, or Yuantouzhu, where paths look out over Taihu Lake. You can also visit Huishan Ancient Town without September's heavier rain. For lake views, avoid relying on a boat trip if the weather turns wet or cloudy.

Holiday crowds

China's National Day holiday falls at the start of October. Wuxi's popular sights and transport can get crowded then, and hotel prices often rise. Outside the holiday, October is still a popular month because the weather is so pleasant, but visits can feel calmer and prices less pressured.

If you hate crowds, skip the National Day travel rush and visit Turtle Head Isle later in the month.

Eat and explore

Cooler weather makes an afternoon around Nanchang Street more pleasant than in summer. Stop for Wuxi-style xiaolongbao, soup-filled dumplings with a sweet pork filling. Autumn is also a good time to try Taihu hairy crab, a local seasonal favourite.

A useful local tip: Turtle Head Isle is large, so check the entrance and boat arrangements before setting off. If you're going for lake views, leave time to walk the shore paths rather than making the visit only about the boat. October brings about 11 hours of daylight, but cloudy skies can make Taihu look less bright than expected.
