Yixing Weather in October

Mild days outdoors

October is Yixing's best month overall, and it's a comfortable time to be out and about. Days are mild, evenings are cooler, and rain is far less of a nuisance than in September. You can wander around Longbeishan Forest Park or spend a day among the hills and tea fields near Dingshu Town.

Don't expect a dry month, though. Rain falls on about eight days, so a wet spell can cut a long walk short. The Yixing Bamboo Sea looks lovely in autumn, but muddy paths make the steep sections less pleasant. If the weather turns, save an indoor stop like the Yixing Ceramics Museum for a rainy afternoon.

National Day crowds

The catch is timing. China's National Day holiday falls at the start of October, and Yixing's popular sights and transport get busy then, especially with domestic families taking short trips. Prices may rise around the holiday. If you can, aim for later in the month, when visitor numbers usually ease and costs feel less pressured.

Whenever you go, the cooler weather makes a stroll through Longbeishan far easier than it was in September's lingering heat.

A local tea stop

Once you've settled into the month, slow down and spend a morning in Dingshu, Yixing's pottery-making town. October's cooler air suits it well. Look at the teapots that made the area famous, then stop for a cup of locally grown yangxian tea. The warm drink is especially welcome after a walk around town.

If you're visiting the Yixing Ceramics Museum, give yourself time to explore Dingshu too. Many workshops and shops sell purple-clay teapots, known locally as zisha. Ask before photographing makers at work, and don't assume every pot is handmade. October averages about five hours of sunshine a day, so keep outdoor plans flexible when clouds roll in.
