February feels damp and cool

You'll find February chilly in Wuxi, with the air often feeling damp under heavy cloud. Highs reach about 10°C, and nights can drop to 2°C. Rain falls on 11 days, so a grey spell can easily cut short a day out. That cold is the main reason February rates as only a fair time to visit, and if you can pick your month, October is the better bet.

Still, February works for indoor stops like the Wuxi Museum, or a stroll along Nanchang Street between showers. On a clearer day, Taihu Lake is worth the trip, but don't count on a warm, sunny afternoon by the water. Boat trips and long outdoor visits are where the cold will bite hardest.

Plum blossoms and holiday crowds

February can bring Lunar New Year, though the dates shift from year to year. During the holiday, family visits and travel can make transport and popular sights busier, and prices can rise. Outside that window, February is generally quieter and cheaper than October, which is one of Wuxi's busiest and most pleasant months.

If you hate crowds, avoid the main holiday travel days and visit Meiyuan, the Plum Garden, on a weekday. Its plum blossoms are a local draw in late winter, though flowering depends on the weather.

Planning around the weather

February is winter, and it's not a reliable month for long, sunny days out. With under four hours of sun a day on average, keep outdoor plans flexible and save indoor sights for the wetter spells.

At Meiyuan, follow the paths through the plum groves rather than just stopping at the entrance. You'll get more from the visit when the blossoms are out, and you can head to a nearby indoor stop if the damp chill sets in. For a warming local meal, try Wuxi xiaolongbao, soup dumplings known for their sweet filling.
