Changshu Weather in February

February feels damp and cool

Changshu's February weather is chilly, often grey and damp. Days reach about 11°C, but mornings and evenings can feel much colder. Rain falls on 11 days, so the paths around Yushan can get slippery.

There's enough daylight for a gentle walk or a visit to the old town, but long outdoor days may feel tiring. Save Shanghu Lake for a clearer spell, and don't count on a sunny beach-style outing. March is milder, while October is the best month overall.

Lunar New Year crowds

Chinese New Year sometimes falls in February, though its date changes each year. If it does, expect more domestic travel around the holiday. Some smaller shops and restaurants may close while families celebrate. The Lantern Festival can also land in February, depending on the lunar calendar.

If you hate crowds, avoid travelling during the holiday itself. Outside that period, February is generally quieter and often less costly than October, when Changshu is at its best for visitors. Check opening times locally if your trip overlaps with the celebrations.

Make the most of a dry spell

Travelling with kids? Keep a rainy-day stop in reserve, such as the Changshu Museum, rather than relying on a full day outdoors.

For a practical local treat, try Changshu's beggar's chicken, a famous dish traditionally wrapped in lotus leaves and baked. It's a cosy choice after a damp walk. If you head to Yushan, stick to the main paths after rain; wet stone steps can be slick, especially on steeper sections. Don't plan a big hike just because the forecast gives you a brief break in the clouds.
