Changshu Weather in October

Mild autumn days

October is Changshu's best month overall, and the weather feels mild rather than summery. Days reach 24°C, while evenings cool to 14°C. With less rain than September, you'll have better odds of enjoying a walk through Yushan National Forest Park or around Shanghu Lake.

Rain still falls on about eight days, and the sky can be cloudy. Keep a flexible plan for outdoor outings, especially if you're hoping for clear views from Yushan. When showers roll in, explore the old streets near Xingfu Temple or settle in for Changshu's famous beggar's chicken, a chicken baked in clay.

Golden Week crowds

China's National Day holiday falls in October, bringing a busy travel week. Popular spots such as Yushan and Shanghu can feel crowded, and hotels and transport are often in greater demand than in quieter months. Outside the holiday, October is usually calmer, though it's still a popular time to visit.

If you hate crowds, avoid the National Day travel rush and visit later in the month. You'll still get pleasant conditions for sightseeing, with fewer people competing for space at the main sights.

Make the most of Yushan

Travelling with kids? The cooler weather makes a stroll around Shanghu Lake more comfortable than September's warmer, wetter days. October has about five hours of sun a day, but showers can still interrupt a long outdoor outing. November is cooler, while October is generally the better choice for combining lake walks with a Yushan visit.

A local tip: pair your Yushan outing with Xingfu Temple, which sits on the mountain's slopes. If rain makes the upper paths slippery, keep your walk shorter and enjoy the temple area instead. Don't count on a completely clear afternoon; the forecast's cloud cover means views can come and go.
