Changshu feels cool and autumnal in November. Afternoons reach 18°C, but mornings and evenings can feel chilly, with lows of 8°C. Rain falls on about nine days, so you may get a damp spell, though it's not usually a washout. There's less sun than in October, and daylight is shorter.

The mild days suit a walk through Yushan National Forest Park or around Shanghu Lake. Cloudy weather can make long views less clear, and wet paths are less pleasant, so keep a flexible plan for the hills. A city stroll around the old town works well when the weather turns.

Events and crowds

November has no major national public holiday in China. It's quieter than October, when the National Day holiday brings a busy travel week. You'll generally find fewer visitors at Yushan and Shanghu, and accommodation prices tend to ease after October's peak. Weekends can still draw local visitors, especially when the weather is fine.

If you hate crowds, choose a weekday for Yushan's trails. You'll have a calmer walk and more room to pause at the viewpoints.

A local tip

Take the route up Yushan from the old town side, then leave time to explore Changshu's historic streets nearby. The climb can feel slippery after rain, so choose a clear day if you want to walk higher. On a grey afternoon, stick to the lower paths and save the summit for better visibility.

November is also a good time for an unhurried visit: the air is cooler than October, but it's milder than December. If you're travelling with kids, Shanghu's lakeside paths are an easier outing than a longer hill walk.
