November feels cool and autumnal in Kunshan, with highs around 18°C and lows near 10°C. The air is fairly damp, and rain falls on about ten days, so expect some grey, drizzly spells. There's still enough daylight for a relaxed day out, but evenings turn chilly.

It's a good month for walking the lanes and canals of Zhouzhuang Water Town or visiting Kunshan's Kunqu Opera Museum. The weather is usually more comfortable for sightseeing than summer heat. Avoid making a whole day depend on sitting outdoors; rain can interrupt canal-side meals and long walks.

Events and local life

November has no major nationwide public holiday in China, so it's generally a quieter time for domestic travel than the October holiday period. Singles' Day falls on November 11 and is mainly a huge online shopping event, not a reason to expect a local festival in Kunshan.

If you hate crowds, you'll likely find Zhouzhuang's narrow lanes calmer than during October's National Day holiday. Weekends can still draw day-trippers, especially when the weather is clear. Prices aren't fixed by the season, but accommodation demand is usually lower than in October, one of Kunshan's best months to visit.

Getting around Kunshan in November

Plan a flexible day around Zhouzhuang: visit the old town when it's dry, then duck into a teahouse if rain sets in. Take care on the stone lanes, which can be slippery when wet. You can also make time for Kunqu, a traditional Chinese opera that developed in the Kunshan area, without assuming a performance will be on during your stay.

Travelling with kids? Keep the canal-town walk short if the afternoon turns damp. A warm bowl of local wontons makes a welcome stop before heading back.
