Kunshan Weather in August

August feels sticky

Kunshan is hot and humid in August, with daytime highs around 32°C and nights staying warm. Humidity is high, and rain falls on many days, often in short, heavy bursts. July is wetter, but August still brings plenty of rain; September is almost as wet.

The heat and showers can make long walks around Zhouzhuang tiring. Save its canals and stone lanes for a cooler spell, and keep indoor stops like the Kunqu Opera Museum in Kunshan city in your plans. You'll get some sunshine, but cloudy skies are common.

Summer crowds

Chinese school holidays run through much of August, so family trips can make Zhouzhuang busy. Hotels and transport may cost more than in quieter months, while October is a better choice for a more comfortable visit. There's no single major August festival to count on in Kunshan. Qixi, the Chinese festival for couples, sometimes falls in August, but its date changes each year.

If you hate crowds, spend more time in Kunshan city and visit Zhouzhuang on a weekday.

Make the rain work

Keep your plans flexible. A sudden shower can interrupt canal-side sightseeing, but it's a good time to duck into a tea house or try Kunshan's famous aozao noodles, a local noodle soup. The warm evenings suit a relaxed meal better than a long outdoor stroll.

For Zhouzhuang, take the train to Kunshan South station, then continue by bus or taxi. Check local transport on the day: heavy rain can slow the road journey, so leave room in your schedule rather than squeezing the water town into a tight connection.
