July: hot and damp

Kunshan in July feels sticky from morning through evening. Highs reach 32°C, and nights stay warm at 26°C. Humidity is high, with rain on 19 days and little daily sunshine. Showers can interrupt a walk, so keep outdoor plans flexible.

Summer break crowds

July brings China's summer school holiday, so families visit popular sights such as Zhouzhuang. Expect more people than in quieter months, especially around the canals. There's no major nationwide public holiday in July, though, so it's not a holiday-week rush.

Prices tend to be higher than in October, one of Kunshan's best months to visit. If you hate crowds, stay overnight in the old town and explore its lanes after day-trippers leave.

Make rain work for you

Rainfall is heavy, but July isn't Kunshan's wettest month: June gets more. August is also rainy, though it gets less than July. That means you shouldn't count on a full day outdoors, but a shower needn't spoil your visit.

Travelling with kids? Choose a flexible day around Zhouzhuang: take a canal boat when the weather's clear, then duck into a teahouse if rain rolls in. The narrow old-town lanes can flood or turn slippery during downpours, so don't leave a boat ride until the last part of your visit.
