Kunshan Weather in October

Mild days by the canals

October feels comfortable in Kunshan, with afternoons around 23°C and cooler evenings near 16°C. Rain falls on about seven days, so you'll usually have plenty of dry time for walking. The air is still humid, but less sticky than in September, when rain is heavier.

Zhouzhuang Water Town is a good fit for this weather. You can stroll beside its canals and cross the old stone bridges without summer heat. A rainy spell can make the lanes slick, though, so take care on the steps. October's shorter days also mean less time for late-afternoon sightseeing.

Golden Week crowds

China's National Day holiday begins on October 1. The first week can bring large domestic crowds to Zhouzhuang and other popular sights, with busier transport and higher hotel prices. If you hate crowds, visit Kunshan after the holiday week; the rest of October is usually calmer and better value than peak holiday dates.

Mid-Autumn Festival sometimes falls in October, but its date changes each year. If it does, you may see mooncakes in local shops. Try a Kunshan-style crab feast, too: autumn is a popular time for eating hairy crab.

Tips for Kunshan in October

October is a strong month for a city break or gentle walks, but it's not ideal for a full beach day. There's no beach scene to plan around here, and rain can interrupt longer outdoor outings. For a change of pace, visit Tinglin Garden and climb toward Yufeng Mountain when the paths are dry.

Travelling with kids? Zhouzhuang's narrow lanes are easier to enjoy outside the National Day rush. Take the bus from Kunshan South railway station, then check the return service before spending the evening among the canals.
