Visiting Baku in July
July: hot, bright days
July feels properly summery in Baku. Afternoons are hot, with plenty of sunshine and very little rain. The sea breeze can help along the Caspian waterfront, but the Old City's stone lanes can feel stuffy in the middle of the day.
Save outdoor sightseeing for morning or evening. You can wander the Seaside Boulevard after sunset, or take a shaded break in the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum. Avoid long walks across exposed areas around the Flame Towers at midday. The daylight lasts late, so there's still time to explore after the heat eases.
Events and local life
There isn't a major fixed national holiday in Baku in July. Summer concerts and cultural events may take place, but their dates change from year to year. Don't plan a trip around a particular festival without checking that year's programme.
If you hate crowds, July may not be your favourite month. It's part of Baku's busy summer travel season, so central sights and the waterfront can feel lively. Prices for stays are generally higher than in quieter winter months. May and October can be gentler choices if you'd rather avoid peak summer.
Make the most of the day
Travelling with kids? Keep the hottest part of the day for an indoor stop, then head to the Boulevard when the evening feels cooler. You can also ride the Baku Funicular up towards the Flame Towers, though the open viewpoints can still feel exposed in the sun.
For a local lunch, try qutab, a thin stuffed flatbread, in the Old City. Then duck into the Shirvanshahs' Palace, where courtyards and indoor rooms break up the walk. July is drier than June, but August is a little hotter and drier still.
