November weather in Suzhou

November brings mild afternoons and chilly mornings and evenings. The high is 18°C, but the low falls to 8°C, so you'll feel the difference once the sun goes down. Rain falls on about nine days, and cloudy spells can make the canals feel cool and damp.

It's a good month for walking around the Humble Administrator's Garden or following the canals through Pingjiang Road. You can duck into the Suzhou Museum when rain sets in. Long afternoons at outdoor sights may feel less inviting on grey, wet days, so keep indoor stops in mind.

Events and seasonal food

November doesn't have a major annual Suzhou festival that draws visitors across the city. The busy National Day holiday is in October, so you'll miss that holiday rush. Autumn is still a good time to look for Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs, a local seasonal favourite, though the season is nearing its end.

If you hate crowds, November is a calmer choice than October, Suzhou's best overall month for a visit. You may find accommodation and sightseeing less pressured than during October's peak, but prices vary by date and hotel.

Getting around in November

Suzhou's gardens are lovely for a slow visit in autumn, but damp paths can be slippery after rain. At the Humble Administrator's Garden, take your time around the ponds and covered walkways rather than rushing between viewpoints.

Travelling with kids? Pingjiang Road's narrow lanes and waterside paths are easier to enjoy in dry weather. For a rainy stretch, the Suzhou Museum is a useful nearby stop; its design by I. M. Pei gives you another reason to visit beyond the collections.
