June: warm and very wet

June feels hot, sticky and often grey. Nanning's high reaches 31°C, with warm nights and rain on 24 days. Showers can interrupt outdoor plans, and the humid air makes long walks feel tiring. The rain is heavier than in May or July.

Short visits to the Guangxi Museum or Nanning Museum work well when the clouds open. Save Qingxiu Mountain's gardens for a brighter spell, when the paths are more pleasant. You'll get long daylight, but little sunshine, so don't count on a full day of clear skies.

Festivals and quieter streets

The Dragon Boat Festival often falls in June, though its date changes each year. Look out for zongzi, sticky rice wrapped in leaves, around the holiday. Children's Day on June 1 can bring extra family activity at local parks and attractions.

If you hate crowds, June is a calmer choice than the popular months of February and November to December. It's also low season, so hotels and flights may cost less than during busier periods. Rain and school-holiday travel can still affect particular days, especially around the festival.

Make rainy spells work

Plan a flexible day rather than relying on a long outdoor outing. If Qingxiu Mountain turns soggy, head to the Guangxi Museum instead, then take the metro back towards central Nanning when the rain eases. Its collections offer a useful look at Guangxi's local cultures.

Travelling with kids? The Children's Day holiday may make parks busier, while wet paths can be awkward for little legs. For a local meal, try laoyou fen, a sour, spicy rice-noodle soup that's especially comforting after a damp afternoon. Don't mistake June's long daylight for reliable sightseeing weather.
