June brings warm, sunny days, with highs around 30°C. Afternoons can feel hot in the city, while evenings are milder. Rain falls on several days, so a shower may interrupt an outdoor plan. It's drier than May, but wetter than July.

The long daylight makes June handy for exploring Panfilov Park, the Green Bazaar and the streets around the Ascension Cathedral. Save the steepest walking for cooler parts of the day, and don't count on a full afternoon outdoors if the heat gets to you. The foothills near Medeu are a welcome escape; higher trails can still have unsettled conditions, so check local advice before setting out.

Events and city life

Children's Day falls on June 1, with family events often held around Almaty's parks and public spaces. The exact programme can change, so look for local announcements closer to your visit. There isn't one major June festival that defines the month.

If you hate crowds, June is a better bet than the busier heart of summer. It's the start of the high season, though, so demand and prices can rise compared with spring. For a quieter city break, April and May are among the best months overall.

Make room for the mountains

Travelling with kids? A ride on the Kok-Tobe cable car gives you city views without a long uphill walk. For a mountain day, head to Medeu and continue towards Shymbulak, where the air feels cooler than downtown.

Keep your plans flexible when rain is forecast: swap a foothill walk for the Green Bazaar, where you can browse local produce and try dried fruit or kurt, a salty dried cheese snack. June's pleasant overall comfort doesn't mean every hour suits every activity; the midday heat is a poor match for exposed city walks.
