Visiting Tashkent in June
June heat
June feels like full summer in Tashkent. Afternoons reach 35°C, while evenings stay warm around 20°C. With little rain and plenty of sun, you can expect dry days, but the midday heat makes long walks tiring.
Save outdoor sightseeing for morning or evening. Amir Timur Square and the broad paths around Independence Square are more pleasant then. The Tashkent Metro is a useful way to cross town during the hottest hours; its ornate stations are worth a look, too. A long afternoon wandering the old streets near Chorsu Bazaar can feel draining.
Things to do
June 1 is International Children's Day, marked with family events and activities in Uzbekistan. If you're travelling with kids, look out for celebrations in Tashkent's parks and public spaces.
For a cooler-feeling visit, spend the middle of the day inside the Museum of Applied Arts, then head to Chorsu Bazaar later. Try a bowl of plov at the Central Asian Plov Center, where the dish is cooked in huge kazan pots. It's a filling meal, so it suits a relaxed evening rather than a hot lunchtime walk.
Crowds and costs
June is quieter than Tashkent's more comfortable spring and autumn months. April, May and October are better for sightseeing, so you'll usually find fewer visitors in June. Summer heat also makes it a less popular time for city breaks, and accommodation may cost less than in peak spring or autumn. Prices vary, though, so don't count on every hotel being cheaper.
If you hate crowds, June can work well, especially at major sights. Just plan around the heat: visit Chorsu in the morning for its liveliest market hours, then use the metro to reach cooler indoor stops.
