July is warm, with highs around 27°C and evenings that cool to about 16°C. It's a good month for riverside walks, outdoor cafés and exploring Ljubljana Castle. But rain can interrupt your plans: July averages 14 rainy days, so don't count on every afternoon staying dry.

The long daylight makes it easier to fit in a walk through Tivoli Park or a visit to the Central Market. Heavy, sticky spells can make uphill sightseeing less pleasant, so save the castle climb for a cooler part of the day. The weather is similar to August, while June is a little cooler and drier.

Events and summer crowds

The Ljubljana Festival brings concerts, opera and other performances to venues including Križanke and Kongresni trg. It's a lovely way to spend a summer evening, but popular shows can make the centre busier.

If you hate crowds, go early to the riverside cafés and explore the Old Town before the evening rush. July is high season, with more visitors and generally higher accommodation prices than in quieter spring or autumn months. Families also arrive during school holidays, so the castle and riverfront can feel busy.

Make the most of a rainy spell

Travelling with kids? A wet afternoon can still work well at the House of Illusions, near Congress Square, before you duck into a café in the Old Town.

For a practical local tip, use the arcades of Plečnik's Central Market as a sheltered route beside the Ljubljanica when showers pass through. You can browse local produce and then cross the Triple Bridge into Prešeren Square once the rain eases. Check the riverfront forecast before choosing a boat ride; rain can make an open-air trip less appealing.
