Ljubljana Weather in September

Mild days, changeable skies

September feels warm in the sun and cool after dark. The average high is 22°C, but evenings can fall to 11°C. Rain comes on 12 days, so a wet spell can interrupt outdoor plans.

You can stroll the riverfront, explore Ljubljana Castle, or cycle through Tivoli Park on dry days. Rain makes the castle's open viewpoints less rewarding, so keep the National Gallery or Central Market's covered arcade in mind. The market's outdoor stalls are less fun in steady rain.

A gentler city

The summer rush has eased, but Ljubljana still feels lively around the riverside cafés and Prešeren Square. Accommodation is usually less costly than in peak summer, though prices vary. September is still one of the better months to visit, not a quiet off-season.

If you hate crowds, you'll find the old town easier to explore than in July or August. Fridays can still draw visitors to Open Kitchen, the food market at Pogačarjev trg. European Mobility Week also brings transport-themed events around the city in September.

Make room for rain
