Visiting Zadar in July
July: hot, bright days
July feels properly summery in Zadar. Daytime highs reach 28°C, nights stay warm, and the sun shines for much of the long day. Rain is limited, though a few showers can interrupt your plans.
The sea and shaded lanes of the Old Town suit lazy afternoons. You can swim at Kolovare Beach, then wander around the Roman Forum when the stone streets feel cooler. Long hikes or hours of sightseeing in the midday heat can feel draining, so save them for later.
Events and crowds
Zadar Summer Theatre brings performances to venues around the city in July. Some shows take place in atmospheric historic settings, including St Donatus' Church. The programme changes each year, so check what's running during your stay.
If you hate crowds, July may test your patience. The Old Town, Kolovare and waterfront get busy, and accommodation and meals usually cost more than in quieter months such as May or October. You'll still find plenty going on, but popular spots feel less relaxed.
Make the most of your visit
Head to the Sea Organ on the western edge of the Old Town in the evening. Waves push air through pipes beneath the steps, making music that changes with the sea. It's a lovely place to cool down after a hot day, though sunset draws a crowd.
Travelling with kids? Kolovare's easy access to the water makes a beach break simple between Old Town sights. For a calmer swim, take a ferry from Zadar to nearby Ugljan and spend time away from the city's busiest shore.
