December is far calmer than Zadar's busy summer, when May to August are the best months overall. You'll have more room around the Roman Forum and along the waterfront, and stays are generally cheaper than in peak season. Advent weekends can still bring local crowds into the centre.

A practical tip: visit the Sea Organ before sunset, then stay by the waterfront for its sound and the nearby Greeting to the Sun display. With only 8.7 hours of daylight, you won't want to leave that stop too late.
