Zadar Weather in March

Mild days, changeable skies

March feels cool rather than wintry in Zadar, with daytime highs around 13°C and nights near 9°C. Rain falls on about 11 days, and clouds often soften the light. You may get a sunny stretch, but showers can interrupt an outdoor day.

The Old Town's Roman Forum and St. Donatus' Church work well between showers. Walk the waterfront to the Sea Organ, but expect wind and waves to make a long sit by the water less pleasant. The Adriatic is too cold for most people to enjoy a swim, so save beach time for warmer months.

Zadar doesn't have a major fixed festival that draws visitors every March. Easter sometimes falls in March, but its date changes; if it does, expect church services and some changes to opening hours.

If you love quiet museum visits and unrushed walks, March suits you better than the summer rush. The city is in its spring shoulder season, so crowds are much thinner than from May to August, and accommodation is usually less costly than in peak summer.

Make the most of a break in the rain

March is a good time to explore the compact Old Town without summer heat or queues. You can duck into the Archaeological Museum or linger over maraschino, Zadar's cherry liqueur, in a café. For a beach day, skip swimming and stroll Kolovare instead.

If you hate crowds, you'll likely enjoy the calmer lanes around St. Mary's Church. One local tip: check the Sea Organ when the wind picks up. Its stone steps make music from the waves, so a breezy day can be more rewarding there than a still one.
