Guilin Weather in February

February feels cool and damp

Guilin's February days are mild, but evenings feel chilly. Rain falls on many days, and thick cloud often hides the karst peaks around the city. Expect damp paths and soft views, not long spells of bright sunshine.

You can still visit Reed Flute Cave, where the limestone shapes are indoors, or take a slow walk beside the Two Rivers and Four Lakes. A river cruise is less rewarding when clouds blur the hills. February is milder than January, but March brings more rain.

Lunar New Year changes the pace

Chinese New Year sometimes falls in February. When it does, Guilin can feel much busier as families travel, and transport gets crowded. Many shops and restaurants may close for part of the holiday, while festive decorations appear around town.

If you hate crowds, avoid travelling during the holiday itself. Outside that period, February is generally quieter and cheaper than Guilin's popular October-to-December season. Holiday prices and crowds can rise, though, so check your dates before choosing a hotel.

Make the most of a cloudy day

Travelling with kids? Reed Flute Cave is a handy choice when rain makes outdoor sightseeing less fun. For a local meal, try Guilin rice noodles in the city; a warm bowl suits a chilly evening.

For clear river views, keep your plans flexible. If the Li River is hidden by cloud, spend the day around Zhengyang Pedestrian Street or visit the cave, then try the river again when the hills emerge. February brings only a little daily sunshine, so don't count on every viewpoint being clear. The weather is good enough for a city break, but it's not the easiest month for a scenic boat trip.
