Guilin Weather in July

July feels hot and damp

Guilin's July days are hot, with sticky air that can make a walk around Elephant Trunk Hill feel tiring. Rain falls often, and cloud and humidity are high, so you may get a grey spell instead of clear karst views.

The Li River is still worth seeing, but rain can affect visibility and river conditions. Save longer outdoor outings for a break in the weather. Reed Flute Cave offers a welcome change from the heat, while a long hike around the hills may feel draining.

Summer crowds

July is summer holiday time for many Chinese families. There's no major national public holiday, but popular sights and Li River boats can still feel busy. Prices are generally higher than in the quieter months, especially October to December, which are better for a visit overall.

If you hate crowds, spend a night in Yangshuo and explore its lanes after day-trippers leave. You'll still meet other visitors, but the evening feels calmer than the busiest parts of the day.

Make rain work for you

July gets less rain than June, but showers still fall on many days. Keep your plans flexible: take a Li River cruise when the weather looks clear, and switch to Guilin's cave or city sights when rain sets in. August is drier, though still hotter.

Travelling with kids? Reed Flute Cave is a good rainy-day stop, with striking rock shapes and an easy visit compared with a long outdoor walk. For a local meal, try Guilin rice noodles in town; they're quick and satisfying after a wet afternoon.
