February is mild, cloudy and often damp in Guigang. Days reach about 22°C, but evenings can feel cool at around 10°C. Rain falls on roughly nine days, and the high humidity can make the air feel clammy. You'll get only a little sunshine, so don't count on a bright, dry stretch.

It's still a good month for a relaxed city visit or a walk around East Lake Park. The cooler weather also suits a trip to Xishan Scenic Area in nearby Guiping. Long, exposed hikes are less appealing when paths are wet, and beach days aren't part of a Guigang visit.

Holidays and crowds

Chinese New Year, also called Spring Festival, sometimes falls in February. The Lantern Festival may do, too; it marks the end of the holiday period. Dates shift each year, so February can bring family gatherings, busy transport and closed local businesses around the holiday itself.

If you hate crowds, travel outside the Spring Festival rush. Guigang is generally quieter than during that peak, and stays may cost less than over the holiday. Away from the holiday, February is one of the better months to visit, alongside December.

Make the most of your visit

Travelling with kids? Pick a clear spell for East Lake Park, then keep an indoor stop in reserve if rain rolls in. February's weather is pleasant for sightseeing, but the cloud and showers can make a full day outdoors feel tiring.

At Xishan Scenic Area, check conditions before setting off on the hillside paths. Wet stone steps can be slippery, especially around the temples. If you're visiting during Spring Festival, expect more people at popular sights and check whether the places you want to see are open.
