October is warm, but less oppressive than September. Afternoons reach 28°C, while evenings cool to around 18°C. Rain falls on about eight days, so you may get a shower, but it's usually easier to plan outdoor time than in September, which is wetter.

The comfortable conditions suit a walk around Guigang's city centre or a day trip to Xishan Scenic Area in nearby Guiping. Save long outdoor outings for clearer spells, and don't count on a full day at the river if rain moves in. Humidity is still noticeable, so busy afternoons can feel sticky.

October crowds and holidays

China's National Day holiday, also called Golden Week, begins on October 1. Guigang isn't as famous a holiday stop as Guilin, but local trains and popular sights can still get busier during the break. Rooms and transport may cost more then than in quieter parts of October.

If you hate crowds, visit after Golden Week. It's generally a calmer choice than the holiday week, though Guigang won't have the low-season feel of February or December.

Tips for Guigang in October

At Xishan, go earlier in the day if you want to walk among the temples and wooded paths before the afternoon warmth builds. Carry a small umbrella for the sudden showers; it's handy on the climb and in town.

October doesn't bring a major Guigang festival that reliably draws visitors. The National Day break is the main event to plan around, rather than a local celebration. If you're visiting outside that week, you'll have more room to enjoy the scenery at an easy pace.
