October in Lianjiang is still warm and humid. Days reach about 29°C, and the air can feel sticky, especially after rain. Showers fall on around 11 days, so outdoor plans may need a little flexibility.

You'll still get plenty of usable daylight for exploring town or taking a drive to Hedi Reservoir. The reservoir's broad waters and green hills make a better outing on a clear day; muddy paths and sudden showers can spoil a long walk. Compared with September, October is cooler and less rainy, but it's not yet the dry-season weather you get in December and January.

Holidays and crowds

China's National Day holiday runs from October 1 to 7. Roads and popular sights can be busier then, as families travel across the country. Outside that week, Lianjiang is generally quieter than major tourist cities, and October isn't its peak travel season.

Prices can rise around the holiday, especially for transport and hotels in bigger nearby cities. If Mid-Autumn Festival falls in October, expect another busy travel period; its date changes each year. Families who want a calmer visit should choose dates outside the National Day break.

What to do

October works for relaxed sightseeing, local meals and short trips when the sky clears. It's less suited to a packed hiking schedule: rain and high humidity can leave trails slick and tiring. The coast is also a less reliable bet than a dry-season beach trip.

For Hedi Reservoir, ask locally about the best access point before setting off; it's a large area, not one simple viewpoint. A driver or local directions can save you from heading to the wrong shore. If you're visiting for Lianjiang's famous red oranges, note that October is early for the main harvest season.
