Best Time to Visit Lianjiang

Cool and dry: November to March

This is the best stretch, and December and January top our comfort score. Days are mild, around 21 to 22°C at the coolest, and nights get properly cool. You'll want a jacket in the evening. Rain is light, with only about five or six wet days a month in December and January.

The sky is often grey, though. Even in the "good" months you don't get a lot of sun, so don't expect postcard blue every day. It's still a comfortable time for walking Lianjiang's streets, eating at local restaurants and day trips out of town.

By March it's warmer, near 28°C, and the rain creeps up to about ten days. It still rates Excellent, but it feels stickier.

Hot and wet: April to October

April is the turning point. It's rated Fair, with highs of 31°C and rain on about 12 days. From May to September the rating is Poor. Nights stay warm at 24 to 26°C, and humidity sits in the mid-80s.

August is the wettest month, with 349 mm over 24 days. That means rain on almost every day. Showers can be heavy, and this is also the time when tropical storms can reach the Guangdong coast. Check forecasts if you're travelling then.

Not everything is bad. Rain often comes in bursts, and you can plan around it. If you don't mind sticky afternoons and want fewer tourists, summer can work for short, flexible trips.

Which month for which trip

For a relaxed first visit, pick December or January. For slightly warmer days and good rain odds, try November, which is also Excellent. October is Fair and the sunniest month at 5.8 hours a day, though it's still humid and rain falls on 11 days.

Lianjiang isn't a big international tourist stop, so you won't see classic high-season crowds. The busiest times are Chinese holidays, mainly Chinese New Year (usually late January or February) and the National Day break in early October. Trains and roads fill up, and local families travel. If you want quiet, avoid those weeks.

Chinese New Year falls in the cool, dry season, so it's a good time for family meals and temple visits, though some small shops close for a few days. Travelling then? Expect holiday prices and packed transport.
