May: warm and damp

May feels hot, sticky and often cloudy in Lianjiang. The daytime high reaches 32°C, and rain falls on many days. Showers can interrupt a long outdoor itinerary, while the low sun and heavy cloud make beach days less reliable. Keep plans flexible: visit a local market or the town centre between showers, and save open-air sightseeing for clearer spells. The hills and countryside are harder to enjoy when paths are wet.

May Day crowds

China's Labour Day holiday brings more domestic visitors, especially around May 1. Transport and popular sights can feel busier then, so travel outside the holiday period if you prefer a quieter stay. Away from those days, May is generally less of a peak month than December and January. Don't assume it's a bargain, though; holiday demand can push up fares and room rates.

A local plan

For a food-focused stop, look for Lianjiang chicken, a local speciality, and ask about it at restaurants in town. It's a good rainy-day plan when a walk around Anpu's old streets would be uncomfortable. Families with young children may find the frequent rain and humid afternoons tiring, so keep outdoor outings short and leave room for indoor breaks. June is wetter still, but May's rain can already shape your day.
