October weather

October still feels warm and sticky in Zhanjiang, with humid air and regular rain. Showers fall on many days, so sightseeing may mean ducking under a shop awning or waiting for rain to pass. The weather is less rainy than September, but it's much wetter than November.

You can visit Huguangyan, a volcanic lake, or explore old streets between showers. Its lakeside paths can be slick when wet, so save a long walk for a dry spell. Beach time is possible, but don't count on a full day of clear skies. Heavy rain or a passing tropical storm can also disrupt coastal plans.

Holidays and crowds

China's National Day holiday begins on October 1 and brings a busy travel week. Popular sights and transport can feel crowded, and prices often rise around the holiday compared with quieter parts of the month. After the holiday, Zhanjiang is generally calmer; December to February is a more popular season for comfortable weather.

Families travelling during the school break should expect more people at Huguangyan and leave extra time for getting around. If your dates are flexible, the days after the holiday are a better bet for a quieter visit.

Make room for rain

October's cloud and showers can interrupt outdoor plans, but they don't have to spoil a city break. Keep a flexible afternoon for a seafood meal in Chikan, where you can linger over local oysters if rain rolls in. For Huguangyan, ask locally about the lakeside path after heavy rain rather than assuming it's dry.

The month's weather is only fair for comfort, so this isn't the best time to plan every day around beaches or long outdoor walks. Choose one main outdoor stop, then keep a nearby indoor option in mind.
