January's cool, cloudy days

January in Guigang feels cool and often damp, with mild afternoons and chilly evenings. The high is 19°C and the low is 8°C. Rain falls on about 9 days, and cloud often softens the daylight. You'll get some sunny spells, but don't count on a bright day every day.

It's a comfortable month for exploring Guigang's Donghu Park or taking a relaxed city walk. At Guiping's Xishan Scenic Area, damp paths can be slippery, so skip steep trails after rain. A long beach day isn't part of a Guigang visit anyway; focus on parks, temples and local food.

Holidays and crowds

Chinese New Year can fall in January, though its date changes each year. If it does, expect busy trains and family travel, with some smaller shops and restaurants closing for the holiday. Outside that period, January is generally quieter than the main holiday rush.

Keep your plans flexible: use a cloudy or rainy spell for a slow lunch, then visit Donghu Park when the weather clears. Guigang's local rice-noodle shops make an easy stop between sights, especially when the evening turns cool.

For Xishan, ask locally about path conditions after rain before setting off. The mountain is in Guiping, within Guigang's wider area, so allow time for the trip from the city. January's short daylight also makes it easier to enjoy the views without turning the outing into a late return.
