April weather in Chengdu

April feels mild to warm, with highs around 26°C and cooler evenings near 14°C. Rain falls on about 14 days, and cloud often softens the light. You'll get some sunny spells, but don't count on a clear sky every day.

It's a good month for wandering Jinli Ancient Street, seeing the teahouses around People's Park, or visiting the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Showers can interrupt long walks, so keep indoor stops such as the Sichuan Museum in mind. The heat and heavier rain of May haven't arrived yet.

What April brings

Qingming, the Tomb-Sweeping Day holiday, usually falls in early April. Families visit ancestral graves, and travel can get busier around the holiday. It's a real local tradition, but not a major city festival to plan a whole trip around.

If you hate crowds, visit the panda base on a weekday outside the holiday period. April is a popular spring travel month, so central hotels and transport can feel busier than in March. Prices may rise around Qingming, while the warmer, wetter May holiday period can also draw many visitors.

Getting around Chengdu in April

Travelling with kids? The panda base is an easy highlight, but the paths can be damp after rain. Wear shoes with a good grip, especially if you're walking between viewing areas.

For a practical rainy-day plan, head to Kuanzhai Alley, where you can duck into teahouses between lanes. Try dan dan noodles nearby: the spicy Sichuan dish is a satisfying break after a wet stroll. Chengdu's covered tea spots also make a cloudy afternoon feel like part of the visit, not a washout.
