June weather in Changchun

June feels warm, with mild evenings, but rain can interrupt your plans. Showers fall on many days, and cloudy skies are common. You'll still get long daylight for strolling around Nanhu Park or exploring the city's wide streets.

Jingyuetan National Forest Park works well on drier days, when you can walk among the pines and enjoy the lake. After rain, paths may be muddy, so keep your plans flexible. July is hotter and wetter, while May is cooler and drier.

Festivals and local flavour

The Dragon Boat Festival can fall in June, depending on the lunar calendar. Look for rice dumplings, called zongzi, around the holiday. Dates vary, so the festival isn't guaranteed to happen in June each year.

For a rainy afternoon, the Museum of the Imperial Palace of Manchukuo offers a closer look at Changchun's history. Later, try Changchun-style cold noodles, or lengmian, a refreshing local choice on a warm day.

Crowds and practical tips

June is generally calmer than July and August, when summer holidays bring more domestic visitors. You may find sights easier to enjoy and stays less costly than in peak summer. May and September are still the better bets for weather.

If you hate crowds, June can suit you better than midsummer. Travelling with kids? Leave room in the day for a shower break. At Jingyuetan, check conditions before setting out on forest paths; the lakefront is an easier option when the ground is wet.
