Changchun Weather in October

October feels crisp

Changchun turns cool quickly in October. Days reach about 13°C, but nights can drop to 1°C, so evenings feel properly cold. Rain is limited, and you'll often get clear spells for walking around town.

It's a good month for Nanhu Park or the broad paths at Jingyuetan National Forest Park, where autumn leaves add colour to a stroll. Long outdoor days are fading, though, and chilly evenings make a beach-style holiday a poor fit. Save long, exposed walks for the sunnier part of the day.

National Day crowds

China's National Day holiday begins on October 1. Changchun can get busier as people travel, especially around the holiday, and popular sights such as Jingyuetan may feel crowded. If you hate crowds, visit after the holiday week, when the city is usually calmer.

Outside that busy spell, October is a shoulder-season month: it's generally less crowded than the peak holiday period. Prices can ease after the holiday, though they vary by hotel and date. May and September are among Changchun's best months overall, so October is a quieter choice, but cooler.

Make the most of the day

With around seven hours of sun a day, October works well for a city break with park walks and indoor stops. Pair Nanhu Park with the nearby old-town sights, or spend a clear afternoon among Jingyuetan's wooded trails. Don't count on staying outdoors late; the temperature falls sharply after sunset.

Travelling with kids? Keep Jingyuetan for a sunny afternoon, then head back before the cold sets in. A useful local tip: check the Jingyuetan park map at the entrance and choose a shorter loop, rather than setting off deep into the woods near dusk.
