Shenyang Weather in October

Cool, clear days

October feels crisp in Shenyang, with mild afternoons and chilly mornings and evenings. The average high is 16°C, but lows reach 3°C, so the day can feel very different from start to finish. Rain is less common than in September, and there's usually plenty of sun.

It's a good month for walking around the Mukden Palace and nearby Zhongjie shopping street, or exploring the old buildings around the Marshal Zhang's Mansion. Cooler weather makes sightseeing more comfortable than September's warmer days. Save long outdoor plans for dry days, and don't count on a relaxed beach day: Shenyang is inland, and evenings turn cold.

Golden Week crowds

China's National Day holiday, known as Golden Week, starts on October 1 and brings a wave of domestic travellers. Popular sights such as the Mukden Palace can feel crowded, while trains and hotels are in higher demand. Prices may rise during the holiday, then ease once it ends.

If you hate crowds, visit outside Golden Week. October is generally quieter and better value than the busier May and September periods, though weekends can still draw local visitors.

Make the most of the month

Travelling with kids? The pleasant afternoons suit a walk through Beiling Park, where you can visit the Zhaoling Tomb and see autumn colour among the trees. The park is large, so chilly late-day walks can feel less comfortable.

One local tip: pair the Mukden Palace with a meal of Shenyang-style chicken racks, a local dish of braised chicken pieces. Zhongjie is close by, so you can warm up with dinner after exploring. Check the evening forecast before heading out; temperatures can drop sharply after sunset.
