June: warm and very wet

June feels sticky, cloudy and often rainy in Wenzhou. The air stays humid, and showers can interrupt a day out. You'll get long daylight, but little sunshine on average, so don't count on a bright beach day.

The high 20s suit short visits to Wuma Street and the old lanes around the city centre. Save longer outdoor plans for a break in the rain. Avoid relying on clear views from Yandang Mountain; wet paths and low cloud can spoil a hike.

Dragon Boat Festival

The Dragon Boat Festival may fall in June, though its date changes each year. Look for local dragon-boat races and rice dumplings called zongzi, wrapped in leaves. It's a good chance to see a Chinese holiday tradition up close.

Quieter than peak summer

June is summer, but it comes before the main school-holiday rush in July and August. It's often a quieter, less expensive time than those peak months, though rain can make a visit less convenient. October to December usually offers better conditions, so June suits you best if you don't mind damp days.

For a practical local tip, take the ferry to Jiangxin Islet only when the weather looks settled. Rain can make the river outing less pleasant, and the island's temples and gardens are easier to enjoy between showers. Back in town, Wenzhou fish balls make a comforting stop on a wet afternoon.
