Shaoxing Weather in June

June: warm and wet

June feels sticky in Shaoxing, with warm days, humid air and frequent rain. Showers fall on many days, and the sky is often cloudy, so don't count on long sunny stretches. The rain can slow walks along the canals and make outdoor sightseeing less comfortable.

The 13.9 hours of daylight still leave time to explore, but choose indoor stops when the rain sets in. The Shaoxing Museum and the former residence of Lu Xun make good rainy-day visits. Save a long wander through the old town for a drier spell.

Plan around the rain

If you hate crowds, June may suit you better than October, one of Shaoxing's best months to visit. June is summer and brings plenty of rain, so visitor demand is generally lower than in October. Prices can be more favourable, though holiday dates may change the picture.

The Dragon Boat Festival sometimes falls in June; its date follows the lunar calendar and changes each year. If it does, expect local celebrations and more visitors around the holiday. Check the dates before choosing your travel days.

Make the old town work

Travelling with kids? Keep the day flexible: a sudden shower can make a canal-side stroll less fun, but a museum stop can fill the gap. For a clear spell, head to Cangqiao Straight Street, where old homes and waterways sit close together.

A useful local trick is to pair that walk with a bowl of Shaoxing noodles in the old town. You can duck inside if rain starts, then return to the lanes when it eases. Avoid planning a full day outdoors; June's wet weather makes indoor stops part of the plan.
