Wenzhou Weather in September

September feels sticky

September in Wenzhou is still warm, damp and often cloudy. Afternoons can feel heavy, especially after rain, and showers affect about half the month. It's cooler and less rainy than August, but October is a much easier month for exploring.

The weather still suits a slow visit to Jiangxin Island, where you can see old temples and stroll along the river when skies are clear. Wenzhou's covered streets and tea shops make useful stops during showers. Save longer walks in Yandang Mountain for a dry spell; wet paths and low cloud can spoil the views. Beach plans are less reliable, too.

Festivals and crowds

The Mid-Autumn Festival sometimes falls in September, though its date changes each year. If it does, expect family gatherings and more domestic travel around the holiday. The festival is known for mooncakes, which you'll see in local shops.

If you hate crowds, avoid travelling during the festival break. Outside it, September is generally quieter than the busy summer holiday period. It's also before October to December, Wenzhou's best-weather stretch, so you may find better value than in those popular months. Exact prices still depend on the holiday dates.

For a practical local tip, check the ferry to Jiangxin Island before setting out. Rain or poor river conditions can affect the crossing, so have a covered stop in Lucheng ready instead. With humidity still high, a long sightseeing day can feel tiring; break it up with indoor visits and a proper meal.
