Thimphu Weather in June

June: wet and cloudy

June feels damp rather than cold in Thimphu. Highs reach 24°C and lows sit around 16°C, but rain falls on 25 days and humidity is high. Clouds often cover the hills, and you'll get little sunshine.

Sightseeing still works between showers. Try the National Textile Museum or Folk Heritage Museum when the rain sets in. Views from Buddha Dordenma can disappear into cloud, and trails towards Tango Monastery may be muddy, so keep hikes flexible.

Events and quiet days

Saga Dawa, a Buddhist month of merit, can fall in June. Its date follows the lunar calendar, so check locally for observances during your visit. Thimphu doesn't have a major annual festival every June; the best-known tshechus, or religious festivals, often take place elsewhere.

If you're travelling with kids, the Folk Heritage Museum offers an easy indoor break from wet afternoons.

Fewer visitors, with a local tip

June is summer low season, so Thimphu is generally quieter than in October and November, the best months overall. Hotels and tours may cost less than during the autumn peak, though Bhutan's daily Sustainable Development Fee still applies.

For a practical rainy-day plan, visit Tashichho Dzong in the afternoon when it's open to visitors, then have ema datshi, a chilli-and-cheese dish, nearby. Keep Buddha Dordenma as a clear-weather option: June clouds can hide the valley views.
