December weather

Krabi stays warm in December, with daytime highs around 28°C and nights near 25°C. It's still very humid, and rain can show up often: the month gets rain on 19 days. November is wetter, but December isn't reliably dry. Cloud and showers can interrupt beach time, and the low sunshine makes this a poor month for counting on clear skies.

You can still enjoy island trips, Railay's limestone cliffs and meals along Ao Nang beach. Keep your plans flexible, though. Heavy showers can make boat outings less pleasant, and wet paths aren't ideal for a long walk around Tiger Cave Temple. Choose a shorter outing if the ground is slippery.

Crowds and holidays

December is part of Krabi's busy high season, especially around Christmas and New Year. Beaches, boats and rooms draw more visitors than in the wetter months, and prices tend to rise. It's not the quiet, low-cost time to visit.

Thailand marks the King's Birthday and Father's Day on 5 December. You may notice public events and closures, though the holiday doesn't make Krabi a festival destination. Christmas is more visible in tourist areas such as Ao Nang than in local traditions.

If you hate crowds, stay in Krabi Town and visit Ao Nang for day trips rather than sleeping beside the beach.

A local trip tip

Railay has no road connection to the mainland. You'll need a longtail boat from Ao Nang or Krabi Town, so ask at the pier about the return crossing before setting off. If rain rolls in, you'll be glad not to be stranded on the beach.

Pack a loose schedule for the month. A shower doesn't have to ruin your day, but it can change which boat trip or viewpoint makes sense.
