July: wet-season days

July in Krabi is warm, sticky and often cloudy. Rain falls on most days, and sunshine is limited, so don't count on long, clear beach afternoons. The sea can be rough, too, and boat trips may be cancelled when conditions turn poor.

You can still enjoy breaks between showers. Try the Emerald Pool, or explore Krabi Town's riverside and night market. Paths can get slick after rain, so Tiger Cave Temple's steep climb is a less appealing choice in wet weather.

Boats and Buddhist holidays

If you hate crowds, July's a quieter time than the high season, which runs through the drier months. You'll generally find lower prices for stays and tours, though rain can disrupt island-hopping plans.

Khao Phansa, the start of Buddhist Lent, often falls in July. It's marked at temples across Thailand, including in Krabi, but the date changes each year. Keep your plans flexible if you're hoping to take a longtail boat from Ao Nang to Railay: rough seas can affect the crossing. Ask locally about conditions before setting out.

Make the most of a shower

Rain doesn't usually mean a washout all day, but wet spells can interrupt beach plans. Pick a stay near Ao Nang if you want food and services close by while you wait for clearer weather. Krabi Town is a good base for its markets and a change of pace from the coast.

Travelling with kids? Save the Emerald Pool for a brighter spell, when the forest paths are less muddy. If the sea is choppy, skip exposed boat trips rather than treating a cancelled tour as a setback. A flexible day is part of visiting Krabi in July.
