Visiting Ko Samui in July
July weather
July feels warm, sticky and often overcast on Ko Samui. The high is 29°C and the low is 28°C, with rain on 27 days and about an hour of sun a day. Showers can interrupt beach time, so don't expect long, bright afternoons. June is a little hotter and drier; August is slightly less rainy.
You can still visit Wat Plai Laem or browse Fisherman's Village between showers. Keep plans flexible, and don't make a full-day boat trip your only big outing: rain can disrupt island tours. Travelling with kids? Short visits to temples and cafés are easier to adjust than long trips across the water.
July events
There isn't one major annual festival that reliably falls in July on Ko Samui. Asalha Puja and the start of Buddhist Lent may land in July, but their dates follow the lunar calendar and can fall in August instead. If either is taking place during your visit, expect temple ceremonies and a quieter, more respectful mood around local shrines.
For a reliable local outing, try the night market at Fisherman's Village in Bophut. It's a good place to sample dishes such as khao soi, a coconut curry noodle soup, if stalls are open during your visit.
Crowds and costs
July brings European summer holidays, so popular beaches and resorts can feel busy. It's generally livelier than the wetter low-season months, though less crowded than the peak winter period around January and February. Prices can reflect that summer demand, rather than the discounts often found in quieter months.
A useful local tip: check the weather before taking the ferry from Nathon to Koh Tao for a day trip. With frequent rain and little sunshine, you'll want a backup plan on Samui, such as the Big Buddha and nearby Wat Plai Laem.
