Visiting Ko Samui in February

February weather

February feels warm and fairly settled on Ko Samui. Days reach 28°C, while nights stay close to that, so evenings don't bring much cooling. Rain falls on about seven days, far less than in January, though a shower can still interrupt a beach day.

With plenty of sunshine, you can mix beach time with visits to Wat Plai Laem or the Big Buddha at Bang Rak. A boat trip to Ang Thong Marine Park can also fit well, though sea conditions can change. Don't count on waterfalls being full after the drier spell.

Festivals and crowds

Makha Bucha, a major Buddhist holiday, sometimes falls in February. If it does, you may see candlelit processions at local temples, including Wat Plai Laem. The date changes each year, so it won't always land during your visit.

February is a popular high-season month. Expect more visitors and higher hotel prices than during the wetter months, especially around Chaweng and Bophut. It's still less hectic than some peak holiday periods, but quiet beach corners can be harder to find.

If you hate crowds, head to Maenam rather than central Chaweng for a calmer stretch of sand.

Making the most of your stay

The weather suits beach days, island sightseeing and evenings outdoors. Humidity is still high, though, and the sun can feel strong during midday walks. Keep temple visits comfortable by covering your shoulders and knees at the Big Buddha.

For a practical local tip, visit Fisherman's Village in Bophut on a Friday evening for its walking street market. You'll find food stalls and shops along the seafront, making it an easy change of pace after a day at the beach. Check locally that it's running during your stay.
