Ko Samui Weather in April

April feels hot and sticky

April is hot, humid and often cloudy. Days reach 30°C, with warm nights around 28°C, so sightseeing can feel tiring by midday. Rain falls on 14 days, but showers don't usually rule out a whole day. Expect roughly four hours of sun daily, rather than clear skies from morning to night.

You can still enjoy a swim at Chaweng Beach or take a boat trip when the sea allows. Save a walk around Fisherman's Village in Bophut for later in the day. Skip strenuous inland hikes during the hottest hours; wet paths near Na Muang Waterfall can also be slippery.

Songkran brings a splash

Thailand's Songkran New Year falls in April, usually around 13–15 April. On Ko Samui, expect water play and celebrations, especially around Chaweng and busy town areas. It's fun if you like joining in, but getting around can take longer where festivities are happening.

Travelling with kids? A visit to Big Buddha at Wat Phra Yai offers a quieter break from the water fights, though dress respectfully at the temple.

Crowds and a local tip

April is generally quieter and less expensive than Ko Samui's busy high season, which peaks around December to February. Songkran can bring more Thai holidaymakers, so the island may feel busier during the celebrations. March is a little drier; May has considerably more rain, so April sits between them.
