March: warm beach days

March feels hot and humid on Ko Samui, with warm nights and plenty of sunshine between cloudy spells. Rain comes on several days, but it's usually a short break in a beach day rather than a reason to stay indoors all week.

You can swim at Chaweng or Bophut, explore Fisherman's Village, or take a boat trip to Ang Thong Marine National Park. For a cooler outing, visit Na Muang Waterfall, though rain can make paths slippery. Don't count on a full day of comfortable hiking in the midday heat.

Crowds and costs

March is generally quieter than February, one of Samui's best months, but it's not a quiet-season bargain across the island. The weather still draws beach visitors, and popular areas like Chaweng can feel busy. Prices may ease from February's peak, though resorts and flights can still be in demand.

If you hate crowds, stay around Mae Nam rather than central Chaweng. You'll still have restaurants and beach access, with a calmer feel.

Events and local tips

Makha Bucha, an important Buddhist holiday, sometimes falls in March. Its date changes each year. If it does, expect temple visits and evening candle processions, including at Wat Phra Yai, home of the Big Buddha. Alcohol sales may be restricted on the holiday.

For a practical local tip, take a songthaew—a shared pickup taxi—between Na Thon and Chaweng, but agree on the fare before you ride. March's heat makes a long walk along the island's main road an uncomfortable way to get around.
