October: wet-season days

October feels warm, sticky and very wet in Krabi. Rain falls on 29 days, and thick cloud leaves little sunshine. Showers can interrupt beach time, while rough seas may make boat trips uncomfortable or unreliable.

You can still explore Krabi Town's cafés and markets between showers, or visit the Tiger Cave Temple when paths are safe. Keep plans flexible rather than building your day around island-hopping. September is wetter, but October is still a poor choice if you mainly want clear beach weather.

What to do, and what to skip

If you hate crowds, October's quiet beaches and low-season feel may suit you. Ao Nang and Railay are calmer than during the busy winter months, and accommodation is often cheaper than in peak season. Some tour boats and island services run less often, though, and bad conditions can mean cancellations.

Travelling with kids? Choose easy outings close to your hotel, so a sudden downpour doesn't leave you stuck far from shelter. Save the Four Islands tour for a calmer day, and don't count on a full day of swimming or snorkelling.

Festivals and local tips

October sometimes brings the Vegetarian Festival, observed at Chinese shrines in southern Thailand. Dates follow the lunar calendar, so it doesn't fall in October every year. If it's on during your visit, look for vegetarian food around Krabi Town and respectful shrine ceremonies.

For Railay, check conditions with the longtail-boat operators at Ao Nang before setting off. The short crossing can get choppy in monsoon weather, and services may pause when the sea is rough. If boats aren't running, enjoy Ao Nang's cafés instead of waiting at the pier.
