December days by the sea

December feels warm rather than scorching, with highs around 28°C and nights near 23°C. Rain is much lighter than in November, though showers can still interrupt a beach day. Head to Khao Takiab for a change from Hua Hin's main beach. You can visit the hilltop temple and look back over the coast, but the steps and monkeys make it less relaxing than a simple beach walk. Keep food tucked away around the monkeys.

For a rainy break, Hua Hin Railway Station is an easy stop near the town centre. It's one of the town's best-known sights, and its distinctive red-and-cream buildings are worth a look even when the sky turns grey.
