October weather

October is one of Yancheng's best months to visit. Days feel mild, while evenings turn cool. Rain is less of a nuisance than in September, and there's plenty of comfortable weather for walking around town or exploring the coast.

The cooler air suits a visit to the Yancheng Wetland National Nature Reserve, where you can look for birds across the marshes. It's also a good time to explore the city without the sticky heat of summer. Skip long outdoor plans during rainy spells, and don't count on a beach day feeling warm enough for a swim.

Holidays and crowds

China's National Day holiday falls at the start of October. Yancheng can get busier then, especially around transport hubs and popular sights, as people travel across the country. Accommodation and transport may cost more during the holiday than later in the month.

If you hate crowds, visit after the National Day rush. The rest of October is generally a quieter shoulder season, with better value than the holiday week. Mid-Autumn Festival sometimes falls in October, but its date changes each year.

October's mild weather works well for a day at the Dafeng Milu National Nature Reserve. It's known for milu deer, also called Père David's deer. The reserve is outside the city, so allow time for the journey and check local transport options before you go.

At Yancheng's coastal wetlands, follow marked visitor routes rather than wandering into protected areas. The reserve is an important habitat for birds, and some sections aren't open to visitors.
