October feels warm and damp in New Taipei City. Days reach 26°C, while evenings stay mild, but humidity is high and rain falls on many days. It's less wet than September, though showers can still interrupt a long day outside.

You can explore the lanes and temples of Sanxia or visit the riverside paths when skies are clear. For a coastal outing to Yehliu Geopark, keep your plans flexible; low cloud and rain can make the exposed rocks less enjoyable. The weather improves in November, so October isn't the best month for a packed outdoor itinerary.

Taiwan's National Day falls on October 10. The main celebrations are in Taipei, just across the river, and can bring extra visitors and road changes around central areas. Check local transport notices if you're travelling between New Taipei and Taipei that day.

October is generally less busy than the popular November-to-March travel season, though weekends can still draw crowds to Jiufen. Prices may be gentler than in peak months, but don't expect every hotel or day trip to be quiet or discounted.

If you hate crowds, visit Jiufen on a weekday and save the narrow Old Street lanes for earlier in the day.

Take the 965 bus from Banqiao to Jiufen if you want a direct route without changing in Taipei. October's cloud and humidity can also soften the views over the coast, so treat the scenery as a bonus rather than the main reason for going.
