Tainan Weather in October

Warm, with some rain

October feels warm and sticky in Tainan, even after sunset. Days reach 28°C, and nights stay near 25°C. Humidity is high, but rain is less frequent than in September. Showers fall on about eight days, so they're a disruption, not a reason to cancel your trip.

You can spend the morning wandering Anping Old Fort or the lanes around Chihkan Tower. Save indoor stops, such as the National Museum of Taiwan Literature, for a rainy spell. The heat can make long walks tiring, so break up sightseeing with a bowl of beef soup or a rest in a tea shop.

Holiday crowds

October 10 is Taiwan's National Day, a public holiday. It can bring more local visitors, especially around the long weekend, so expect busier trains and popular sights. Tainan's art events often run in autumn, but dates and programmes change each year.

If you hate crowds, avoid travelling over the National Day weekend and visit major sights on weekdays. October is usually quieter than Tainan's popular December-to-February season. Prices can be easier than in winter, though holiday weekends may cost more than ordinary October days.

Make room for showers

October is a useful month for a city break, but it isn't reliably dry. Keep flexible time in your day for a sudden shower, and don't count on a full afternoon at the coast. The beaches and outdoor sights are still possible when the weather holds.

For a local food stop, head to Guohua Street for danzai noodles, a small bowl of noodles with shrimp and minced pork. It's an easy pause between nearby food stalls and historic lanes. If rain starts, duck into a shop rather than trying to cross the old streets in a downpour.
