Tainan Weather in February

February feels mild

February is one of Tainan's best months for being outdoors. Days feel comfortably warm, and evenings stay mild. Rain is fairly limited, though showers can still interrupt a day out. You'll get good conditions for walking around Anping Fort, browsing the lanes near Chihkan Tower, or taking a day trip to the coast.

The weather's less suited to long, lazy beach days than to sightseeing. If you're visiting Guanziling's hot springs, the cooler evenings make a soak especially pleasant. Keep some flexibility in your plans in case rain rolls through.

Lanterns and Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year sometimes falls in February. When it does, expect transport and popular sights to get busier, while some family-run eateries and shops may close for part of the holiday. Tainan's famous Yanshui Beehive Fireworks are held around the Lantern Festival, which can also fall in February. The event is loud and crowded, so it's not for everyone.

If you hate crowds, visit outside the Lunar New Year and Lantern Festival dates.

Busy season, with one local tip

February is part of Tainan's popular cool-season travel period, so it can feel busier than the hot, wet summer months. Lunar New Year can push up demand for rooms and transport. January is a little cooler and wetter; March gets warmer and wetter, so February is a comfortable middle ground.

For a practical local touch, head to Anping and try shrimp rolls, a Tainan specialty. Many visitors pair them with a walk around Anping Tree House, where banyan roots have grown over an old warehouse. Check opening times around Lunar New Year, when smaller businesses may take a break.
