Kaohsiung Weather in February

Mild days by the harbour

February is one of Kaohsiung's most comfortable months. Afternoons feel warm, evenings stay mild, and rain is usually brief rather than a reason to cancel your day. You can wander the Pier-2 Art Center, take a ferry to Cijin, or explore the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum without summer's heavy heat.

There's enough sun for a beach stop, but don't make swimming the whole plan. Cloud can roll in, and the sea may feel cool. For a city break, the weather is good for walking around Lotus Pond and its Dragon and Tiger Pagodas.

Lunar New Year crowds

Lunar New Year often falls in February, though its date changes each year. Kaohsiung's temples, including Sanfeng Temple, can be busy with families making visits and offering prayers. Some shops and restaurants close for part of the holiday, while popular transport routes get crowded.

If you hate crowds, visit outside the main holiday period. February is still part of Kaohsiung's popular December-to-March travel season, so expect more visitors than in the hotter, wetter months. Prices can rise around Lunar New Year, but the rest of the month is often less pressured than the holiday itself.

Make the most of Cijin

Travelling with kids? The ferry from Gushan to Cijin makes a fun, easy outing, and you can pair it with a walk to Cijin Lighthouse. On a cloudy afternoon, head back to the city for a bowl of beef noodle soup instead of lingering on the beach.

February's weather is also a good fit for cycling along Cijin's seafront without facing summer heat. During Lunar New Year, allow extra time for the ferry crossing; queues can build when local families head to the island.
